"I always longed for adventure. Even when I was a baby, my mother told me they had to put a harness on me to keep me from running away. I left America when I was 20, intending to return six months later. I didn’t return for 11 years.
I have many foreign ‘souvenirs’ from my travels. I have a deep wound on the back of my head inflicted by a Rhodesian tribesman's ax. I was helping a government medical inspector and giving injections. The sun was in my eyes, and I couldn't find the vein in a boy's arm. I jabbed, and he screamed. The man thought I was inflicting evil spirits and took an ax to my head. I was unconscious for three days.”
